Train the trainer ICU module 5 in Ghana

From 16-22 September MeduProf S lecturer Olaf van Oosterhout travelled to Ghana to conduct the fifth ICU module out of six. This fifth module was like the earlier modules a combination of lecturing and practising in the classroom and teaching on the job (bedside training) at the ICU.
The participants are trained to become trainers on their own ward and in general for the hospital where they work; the train the trainer principle.
At the end of the project the hospital will have competent teachers in ICU. To achieve this objective the module aims at teaching didactical skills as well as in depth knowledge on ICU issues.
The same 6 participants as in module 5 were present and are still very enthusiastic and dedicated.

Also a recap of the four previous ICU courses was done. Subjects as “ABCDE method initial assessment”, shock, cardiac rhythms, action potential and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation were topics for this week.
In the Skills-lab they practised Monitoring of a critically ill (ICU) patient, cardiac rhythms and ECG.
During the last module in November, the topic will be on paediatric related subjects. The last module will be finalized with an assessment.
