MeduProf-S Launches Franchise Programme with Nobo College in Tanzania

MeduProf-S has officially started its franchise cooperation with Nobo College in Dar es Salaam, marking an important new step in our long-term commitment to sustainable healthcare education and local capacity building.

The cooperation begins with the development of Medical Imaging training programmes, including X-ray, CT, MRI and Ultrasound. Under the franchise model, Nobo College will combine its local educational capacity with MeduProf-S curriculum support, teacher development, quality assurance and international professional standards. 

Starting with the teachers

The first activity under the new partnership was an intensive Teach the Teacher programme for ten Radiology teachers and two Pharmacy teachers.

For MeduProf-S, this is a deliberate choice. Sustainable healthcare education does not start by bringing in foreign teachers to deliver courses temporarily. It starts by developing the knowledge, confidence and teaching skills of professionals who are already part of the local healthcare and education system.

This philosophy has been at the heart of the MeduProf-S approach since 1996. Some teachers trained by us between 1998 and 2004 are now involved again in this next stage of development — demonstrating the long-term impact of investing in local educators.

Learning by doing

The Teach the Teacher programme used the nine competencies required for effective adult education as a common thread throughout the training.

The programme covered the Principles of Adult Learning, Problem-Based Learning, Case-Based Learning, SMART instructional design, effective presentation, core curriculum development, practical clinical training through DOPS, skills-lab examinations through OSPE, examination scorecards, constructive feedback and professional social behaviour.

Approximately 80% of the programme was case- and activity-based. Teachers worked on individual and group assignments, practical exercises, presentations and real educational challenges rather than simply attending lectures.

Participant feedback highlighted the value of the interactive approach, practical exercises, active participation and exchange of experiences. 

A different approach to international healthcare education

For many years, healthcare development programmes in underserved regions have depended heavily on international experts and volunteers travelling abroad to provide temporary training.

Although such programmes can make a valuable contribution, they do not always create the long-term teaching capacity required to continue education independently.

The MeduProf-S franchise model is designed to address this challenge.

Instead of replacing local educators, we strengthen them.

Local teachers understand their healthcare system, their students, their professional culture and the practical challenges healthcare workers face every day. By combining this local knowledge with structured curricula, modern teaching methodologies, quality assurance and international standards, healthcare education can become both locally owned and internationally supported.

The franchise agreement also provides for Train-the-Trainer programmes, quality assurance frameworks, audits and MeduProf-S registered certification. 

Building capacity that multiplies

Our objective is not simply to train a number of students.

It is to create a system in which teachers train professionals, experienced teachers develop new teachers, and knowledge continues to multiply locally.

Looking for new franchise partners

Following the start of our cooperation with Nobo College, MeduProf-S is looking to develop similar partnerships with medical colleges, universities, hospitals and professional training institutes in Africa and India.

The franchise model can support institutions that want to establish or expand CPD and skills-based healthcare programmes while maintaining local ownership and delivery.

The cooperation with Nobo College initially focuses on Medical Imaging, with the possibility of expanding into additional healthcare education areas as the partnership develops.
